A vow to forever progress, moving forward in all walks of life, this tune is the cornerstone of this record’s creation, as well as all of those to follow.
A college composition professor once gave me an exercise, to write lyrics in order to aid in the writing of an instrumental melody, to make one conscious of phrasing. I wrote 3 words of text when listening to the main groove of this piece, & after the first phrase was out, I played the rest of the melody in its completed form...is it really failing the exercise if you end up with a result you enjoy? ^_^
The main motif comes from a Steve Morse RH picking exercise/lesson. Sprinkle in a little Vai, some Portnoy-esque drumming, & some LaRue bass grooves, & VOILA!
Mark Michell lends his talents with a ripping bass solo near the end, & is the only outside string player on this entire album.
*Coincidentally, the tune ended up with 186 measures (my lucky number!)

The Mountain is a close second, but Iron Sights is my favorite tune on the album. From the gnarly bass riff to open it up, to Pig Riff mixed with heavy guitars, to that assault of an ending...this tune kicks hard! Alex Maiers
